Marian Hossa aggravated an upper-body injury and will not play in Thursday’s preseason match-up against the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to Joel Quenneville after morning practice.
“He aggravated an injury there,” said Quenneville to the media Thursday morning. “I wouldn’t expect him in the next four games here.”
Hossa could return for the final game of the preseason on September 28 against the Washington Capitals but Quenneville is confident that he will be back to full form by the season opener on October 1.
“No, he’s skating good,” Quenneville said in reply to concerns that the injury could be long term. “We liked the way he was playing and moving out there.”
This is just the latest of injuries plaguing the 34-year old forward since joining the Blackhawks in 2009. He endured lower-body injuries for much of his first two seasons with the club and sustained a sever head injury during the 2011 – 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hossa most recently missed Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins due to a back injury but returned for the following game. He had the opportunity to undergo surgery to correct some problems during the offseason, but elected not to undergo any sort of procedure.
