The Chicago Cubs series against the New York Mets on the road this weekend is one of their more important sets away from Wrigley Field in the first half of the season. They are coming off a three-game home series with the San Francisco Giants where they couldn’t come away with anything in the win column after their 9-2 win in the opening game of the set on Monday.

There is no denying that the Cubs have had a difficult schedule to begin the 2025 season, so there shouldn’t be a reason why fans are panicking with them dropping three of their last four games dating back to the series finale last Sunday against the Brewers.

Even though this season is the top priority for the organization, part of the front office should always be looking toward the future. With two big contract decisions on their hands this offseason, an important baseball insider believes that Chicago has more than enough resources to keep two of their brightest stars around for a long time.

Jon Heyman assures Cubs fans about paying Kyle Tucker and PCA

Jon Heyman appeared on 670 The Score earlier this week and made it known that the Cubs front office should be able to fork over the contract offers necessary to keep Kyle Tucker and Pete Crow-Armstrong around for the long haul.

“Well, they should be able to afford both guys, Heyman said. “This is a very successful franchise, they’ve done great from a business standpoint. They did not come close on Bregman and that looks like a bit of a mistake at this point. You got to sign PCA, you’re going to get a good deal out of him at this point. You can do it for $100 million or less, which is nothing in today’s day in age so you got to do that.”

Even though Bregman would have been nice to have for the team based on how lackluster the third base position has performed so far this year, not paying him could lead to a Tucker extension this offseason. The fact that the slugger is willing to talk to the Cubs’ during the season about a new contract leads Heyman to believe that he could remain in the Windy City for years to come.

“Tucker, it seems like he’s willing to talk in-season, so that is a great sign to get something done,” Heyman said. “I had a rival executive tell me they got to put the $500 million in front of him, they’re not going to do that, that’s not the Cubs. He wants to be here, let’s get it done.”

Tucker has provided a huge boost to Chicago’s order so far this season and has made everyone around him in the order better. The Cubs have one of the best offense’s in baseball, and Tucker plays a big part in that.

Kyle Tucker and PCA will be crucial for the postseason push

Tucker has nine home runs so far this season and has driven in 31 runs while slashing .284/.395/.547 to give him a .943 OPS. He is top ten in baseball in homers and runs driven in and has been as consistent as can be after having an abysmal spring down in Mesa. Tucker is the definition of a superstar and has the power that can carry a team toward the top of a pennant race.

Crow-Armstrong has burst onto the scene this year after playing in 123 big league games a season ago. The speedy center fielder has tapped into his power this year, as he has nine home runs, just like Tucker. PCA has also driven in 27 runs to go with his .265/.303/.537 slash line and .841 OPS. The 23-year-old has the ability to change the game in many ways and has the energy that can flip the momentum of a big game at any time.
