The Chicago Cubs continued their Spring Training schedule on Thursday afternoon by beating the San Diego Padres 10-2 in Arizona. We are just a few weeks away from the season opener in Miami as another season is here.
During the game, infielder Javier Baez had to be removed from the game with a left hamstring injury after he rounded first base trying to stretch out a double in the fifth inning. Baez was helped off the field, something Cubs fans really don’t want to see.
But after the game, the Cubs provided an update on Baez and it’s nothing to worry about. Baez told reporters that he received treatment and that it’s not a serious injury.
“I’m completely fine, 100 percent,” Baez said via Carrie Muskat. “I got some treatment. The trainers were all over it (hamstring cramp) and everything is fine.”
The star infielder went on to blame dehydration for his injury saying he doesn’t drink a lot of water including during his workouts. Baez isn’t expected to play in Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Instead, he could return for one of Saturday’s split squad games against the Los Angeles Dodgers or Chicago White Sox.
