Jimmy Butler critical of Fred Hoiberg in postgame comments

The frustrations are starting to show for the Chicago Bulls and now their best player is starting to speak out.

Following a loss to the New York Knicks on Saturday, shooting guard Jimmy Butler had some harsh comments for head coach Fred Hoiberg. Butler was asked a question about the Bulls struggles and if a shakeup needed to happen, and he went all out on the question.

“I believe in the guys in this locker room, yeah,” Butler said via CSN Chicago. “But I also believe that we probably have to be coached a lot harder at times. I’m sorry, I know Fred’s a laid-back guy, and I really respect him for that, but when guys aren’t doing what they’re supposed to do, you got to get on guys, myself included. You got to do what you’re supposed to do when you’re out there playing basketball.”

In his first season as head coach, Hoiberg has failed to find the right combination to get the Bulls going this season. Often times he rolls the dice by playing Doug McDermott and Niko Mirotic in the fourth quarter and it’s hurt the Bulls at times.

Coming off a game in which they lost in four overtimes to Detroit, it’s not easy to play the next night. So the frustrations are understandable for Butler as the Bulls have fallen to 15-10 and fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

Butler also stated that he still believes in Hoiberg and that he can be the guy to get the team going. “Yeah, he’s got to be,” Butler said. “He’s got to be on me, too. He’s got to be on our leaders to call guys out when they’re not doing their job. But I just think from the jump it got out of hand, dug ourselves a hole. When we do that, we normally don’t come out of that hole.”

The Bulls will look to get back on track Monday night when they host the Brooklyn Nets.
