The offseason rumors have not been kind recently to Jimmy Butler.
Whispers have it that the man known as Jimmy G. Buckets was one of the primary reasons that both Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose did not return to the Chicago Bulls this offseason.
Butler and Rose have had chemistry issues on the court and probably ones off the court. They played more of a “you get yours this possession, I’ll get mine next possession” style instead of truly paying off of each other.
Do I think they could’ve eventually worked through them? I do, just because of how laid back Rose is.
As far as Noah, both are clearly outspoken players who have differing leadership styles. Joakim will try to play the peacemaker towards the media, while Jimmy is not afraid to call players out, including himself. That can’t have lead to very…easy nor quiet conversations within the locker room.
Here’s what Butler had to say via ESPN:
“That has nothing to do with me. I don’t move guys,” Butler said before Thursday’s Team USA practice at the United Center in Chicago. “It’s like I always say: People are going to think what they want to think. That doesn’t bother me. I know where I stand. I know who I am.”
Butler will be playing at the United Center Friday night for Team USA against Venezuela. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s presented with any questions after the game.
