Kris Bryant says fatigue is playing a factor in NLCS for Cubs

If the Chicago Cubs want to save their season, they will have to come back from an 0-3 hole to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The mindset is now take this thing one game at a time.

The Cubs struggled once again offensively, scoring just one run against starter Yu Darvish and the bullpen. Chicago’s struggles against LA pitching has lasted all series long as the Cubs hitters are just 2-for-32 against the Dodgers bullpen in the series.

Their only two hits came in the 9th inning of Game 3 off of Ross Stripling. Closer Kenley Jansen came in and shut the door, stranding Cubs runners on second and third to end the game.

Among the Cubs struggles this postseason has been their hitting. They just can’t hit.

Chicago has scored all of its runs this series on the home run ball, jumping out to an early lead but failing to tack on more and hold on. The hitting slump is almost everywhere in the lineup including the 2016 NL MVP Kris Bryant.

Following the game, Bryant hinted that tiredness is playing a role after going five games with the Washington Nationals in the NLDS. Here’s what he told Steve Greenberg of the Chicago Sun-Times:

“I wouldn’t say emotionally or mentally,” Bryant said, “but I think physically, yeah. Obviously, some guys are tired. It has been a really long year. We’ve had some long days and stuff like that.”

It’s not the first time Bryant has mentioned fatigue.

Sure, there’s going to be that World Series hangover after winning it all in seven games last season. But it appears as if this season, the fatigue is just too much.

Bryant discussed the fatigue issue back in September with the Chicago Tribune. He also said missing the All-Star Game was a “win-win” in a way that there would be extra days off.

But if the Cubs want to make history and come back from an 0-3 hole, Bryant and the rest of the team will have to put this fatigue issue behind them.
