The Chicago Cubs are getting their money’s worth out of Kyle Tucker. The star right fielder won the National League Player of the Week award after his hot start to the 2025 campaign.

Tucker has 15 hits, 13 runs, five doubles, five home runs, 12 walks, and 15 RBIs. He’s batting .319/.458/.745. Not bad for the $16.5 million Chicago is paying him in 2025.

However, the Cubs only have Tucker on contract through this season after trading for him in the offseason for third baseman Isaac Paredes, right-hander Hayden Wesneski, and third baseman Cam Smith.

There’s a legitimate fear that Chicago might not be able to re-sign Tucker, especially if he continues to have an impressive year.

Kyle Tucker’s comments should scare the Chicago Cubs

Tucker recently made comments that should make the Cubs’ front office worried.

Per Jesse Rodgers of ESPN, Tucker was asked about Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s new contract that he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays for $500 million over 14 years.

Tucker said he was just focusing on playing baseball this year, saying he was with the Cubs for “right now.”

Via Rodgers on X:

“NL Player of the Week and free agent-to-be Kyle Tucker was asked about Vlad Jr’s new deal:

“It’s what he wanted to do. I’m sure he loves playing in Toronto. That’s great for him. Everyone is a little different. Right now I’m here to play this yr and play for the Cubs…We’ll see where everything goes after that.”

Cubs fans on social media immediately began panicking at Tucker’s comments, with many believing he insinuated he wouldn’t be back with the Chicago after the season.

“Hoyer got him for a year just to save his job,” wrote a fan.

“Cubs fans must be upset about this,” posted a Blue Jays fan.

“Soak up Kyle Tucker as a cub while you can, he wants his BAG. Will Tom Ricketts sack up or let him walk like usual,” posted another.

“Doesn’t sound like a man that wants to re-sign in Chicago,” believes one poster.

“Ricketts will never pay a player of his caliber. Sad reality but still reality,” wrote a fan.

“Yikes. We’re screwed,” posted another.
