The 2019 season might be winding down and the Chicago White Sox aren’t going to the playoffs but that hasn’t stopped Lucas Giolito from continuing to put together an impressive season.
After a dreadful 2018 campaign in which Giolito posted a 6.13 ERA and a WHIP of 1.477. There was a time where it looked like the White Sox actually lost the trade with Washington and Giolito looked like a fifth starter.
But in 2019, he’s changed that.
The pitcher has emerged as the ace of the staff with a 14-7 record and a 3.20 ERA. On Tuesday, Giolito reached a big milestone in Chicago’s loss to Minnesota as he reached the 200-strikeout mark for the season:
Giolito becomes the 18th player in franchise history to reach the 200 strikeout milestone for a season and the first since Chris Sale in 2016.
The 25-year-old has made a strong case to be the future ace of this staff and will likely be the opening day starter come 2020.
