Marian Hossa could not have asked for a better way to get his 1000 career point then against his first team.
Per the Ottawa Sun, “It definitely would be really meaningful to get a milestone here,” Hossa said after the morning skate. “But first thing is, we have to win the hockey game.”
He got his wish. The 35-year-old winger got his 1000 point late in the third period on a goal to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 over the Ottawa Senators. The Senators would later tie the game and delay the celebration, but Patrick Sharp’s shootout goal gave the Hawks the win.
After the game, Hossa was humble about the milestone. “It doesn’t get better than this, doing it where I started…It means lots to me. Obviously big thanks go to all the players tonight who helped me to achieve that, and also all the players throughout my career.” Hossa said during the post game.
The respect went both ways as the Ottawa fans gave their former first round pick a standing ovation for his accomplishment.
Hossa becomes the 80th player in NHL history to reach the 1000 point total, and is fifth among active leaders. He did it in 1100 games.
