One of the biggest storylines during the offseason for the Chicago Bears is going to end.
According to the Chicago Tribune’s Dan Wiederer, tight end Martellus Bennett will re-join the team Tuesday when they begin a three-day mandatory minicamp. Bennett was back at the team’s facility Monday and is expected to return after missing every OTA hosted by the team this offseason. He forfeited a $100,000 workout bonus by missing the OTA’s and would have been fined if he missed minicamp.

The 28-year-old tight end has two years left on his current deal and is looking for a new contract. He’s scheduled to earn a base salary of $4.9 million in 2015 and $5.085 million in 2016.
Bennett led all tight ends with 90 receptions in 2014 and has been a big part of the Bears offense in his two years with the team. He’s expected to carry a similar role in 2015, although tight end Zach Miller could see more playing time as well returning from injury.
In two seasons with the Bears, Bennett has 1,675 yards on 155 receptions and 11 touchdowns. He’s expected to meet the media tomorrow and could address his absence for the first time publicly.
