Mike Shaw has been on the Illinois radar since he was in 8th grade. Now a senior for De La Salle, on Chicago’s south side, Mike Shaw gave a verbal commitment to Bruce Weber and the boys making him the 4th recruit in Illinois’ 2011 class. “They’ve been recruiting me since eighth grade and they’ve been loyal to me the whole time,”That made it easier. This was a ridiculously tough decision. They were all neck and neck last week.” Shaw said after his press conference this afternoon.
Also having guys on the current roster, want him on the team next year was a big deal to him. “I thought it was real big for him to take time out of his day to let me know that they’ve always been there for him,” Shaw said. “He (Demetri McCamey) told me that if you come here, they will treat you right.” Demetri McCamey will not even be on the team next year when Shaw gets there as he is a senior this year.
Shaw is also the 4th top 100 ranked player to commit to Illinois, joining Tracy Abrams, Mychael Henry and St. Ignatius Center Nnana Egwu.
