Milwaukee Distillery trolls Cubs with new “L Flag Bourbon”

We all know what happened last season.

The NL Central came down to Game 163 and the Milwaukee Brewers came into Wrigley Field and beat the Chicago Cubs to win the division. Milwaukee would go on to reach the NLCS while the Cubs were bounced in the Wild Card Game.

The rivalry between the Cubs and Brewers added a new chapter last season and we fully expect it to continue into 2019. Even with the Cubs slow start and Milwaukee’s hot start, the upcoming weekend series should be a good one.

With Chicago coming into town for a three-game set, a Milwaukee brewery is getting their troll on. Central Standard Craft Distillery is taking the troll to a whole new level as they have released new special edition “L flag bourbon” to the public for $30.

The bourbon is available in limited quantities at the Central Standard location in Milwaukee starting on Friday.

Per the Milwaukee Business Journal, the idea came from when the owners asked Cubs owner Tom Ricketts for the “L” flag that flew above Wrigley Field following Game 163. They wanted to make a donation to charity for the flag.

In the lead up to the first series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs since the two teams played a dramatic game No. 163 in October, Central Standard founders Evan Hughes and Pat McQuillan wrote a letter to Cubs owner Tom Ricketts with a straightforward request. The Cubs fly a flag over Wrigley Field after each game with either a W or an L on it, depending on the result of the game, and the distillers wanted the L flag from game No. 163 in exchange for a charitable donation.

The two teams will meet for a big early season three-game series starting Friday night in Milwaukee. While it’s early, it feels like a big series for the Northsiders.
