Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has been the main focus of all of the team’s moves this offseason. With training camp set to begin in just two weeks, Trubisky was interviewed by the Bernstein and McKnight Show on 670 The Score Monday morning to discuss his offseason and what the quarterback is doing to prepare for year two.
There was a lot to take away from the interview as Trubisky is about to enter his second season as the most vital player on the Bears future.
Some of the biggest moves that haven’t really made the headlines were the Bears making sure that Trubisky was surrounded by the right people both on the field and in the quarterback room. That includes bringing in a offensive-minded head coach in Matt Nagy.
“I have so many brilliant quarterback minds around me,” Trubisky said. “The experience they have is invaluable. I’m trying to be a sponge in that room and gain as much information. I can’t appreciate more how they help me day in and day out.”
It isn’t just minds, but players also as the team brought in four new pass catching targets for their quarterback including tight end Trey Burton and wide receiver Allen Robinson.
With a new offense being in place, the Bears have had just a few weeks at OTA’s to start getting things together both on and off the field. For Trubisky, learning the offense has been with reps and in the film room.
“I think I’m a mix of all the above,” Trubisky said. “I’m a big repetition guy, whether its on the field getting reps or in the class room and meeting continually going over stuff.”
There will be live repetitions a plenty for Trubisky and the offense during training camp as the team will start camp earlier than a majority of the NFL teams. They will also have a fifth pre-season game for reps as they are partaking in the Hall of Fame game on August 2nd which is a blessing key for a team with a new coaching staff.
With two week before it comes time to report for training camp, the most important player on the Bears appears to be in the right mindset. There will be immense attention and analysis to each throw Trubisky makes whether during camp or the season. On Monday, he appeared understanding and readied for the task that lays ahead.
