Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura stated in the past that he hoped Chris Sale would get the start for the American League in the 2016 MLB All-Star Game. Now that option became a reality.

American League manager Ned Yost announced that Sale would be the starter for the American League when they take on the National League in San Diego. It will be Sale’s fifth All-Star Game, but his first start. He was the winning pitcher in the 2013 MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York.

Sale is 14-3 in 18 games started this season, striking out 123 batters in 125 innings pitched thus far.

He’s been the ace in the White Sox rotation once again as the team has been on a little bit of a roll heading into the All-Star Game. Sale did lose his last start against the Atlanta Braves on Friday, but has pitched well throughout the season.

He will oppose San Francisco’s Johnny Cueto who was named the starter by New York Mets manager Ned Yost.

Sale won’t be the only White Sox player who will be in San Diego. Pitcher Jose Quintana was named to the roster on Sunday. Sale was happy to have his fellow rotation mate at the game: “Can’t think of more deserving person,” Sale told the media. “Couldn’t be happier for him.”

Sale will face at least two Cubs hitters in the first inning, giving a preview of the Crosstown Classic in a few weeks:
