The NFL Free Agency period is set to begin today as the football world will be flowing with up to the minute news.

This will be Ryan Pace’s first NFL Free Agency period as the General Manager of Chicago Bears. The rumors have already started flying as the team prepares for what looks to be a total rebuild starting with the defense.

The Chicago Bears have already made one move by signing Pernell McPhee to a five-year deal worth $40 million. The Bears likely aren’t done yet, with possible moves coming today as the team looks to booster its defense.

CCS writer Jason Ferrari looks at some possible replacements on the defensive side of the ball:

  • Cornerbacks
  • Linebackers
  • Safeties

Check in with this live blow as we will update the moves all day long!

(All times in CST)

3:18 p.m. – Wide receiver help could be on the way for the Bears. (JF)

Per sources: #Bears are close to a deal with WR Eddie Royal.

— Aaron Leming (@AaronLemingNFL) March 10, 2015

3:13 p.m. – The Bears trade of Brandon Marshall to the Jets is official. They give a 7th round pick to the Jets. (JF)

Actual trade compensation in Brandon Marshall trade: Jets get Chicago’s 7th-round pick plus Marshall for NY's 5th-round pick, per NFL source

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 10, 2015

3:09 p.m. – Brooks Reed was a target for the Bears. Looks like he is off the table. (JF)

Falcons adding LBs: Former Texans LB Brooks Reed is expected to sign with Atlanta as is former Cowboys LB Justin Durant, per sources.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 10, 2015

3:05 p.m. – In other safety news…(JF)

I'm being told the signing of SS Antrel Rolle only means competition with Ryan Mundy. Da'Norris Searcy and Ron Parker still possible.#Bears

— Aaron Leming (@AaronLemingNFL) March 10, 2015

2:57 p.m. – As all the trade craziness begins, Bears appear to be signing safety Antrel Rolle. (JF)

2:26 p.m. – The Bears appear to be out of the running for Terrance Knighton. (JF)

Terrance Knighton frontrunner = #Raiders – but #Colts are still in the mix. WAS & CHI out. #NFLFreeAgency

— Cecil Lammey (@CecilLammey) March 10, 2015

2:07 p.m. – Looks like Virgil Green is staying with the Broncos. (JF)

Virgil Green has informed #Bears hes staying with #Broncos.

— Jeff Legwold (@Jeff_Legwold) March 10, 2015

1:29 p.m. — According to Aaron Leming, Searcy is a top target for the Bears. Still very much in the running…

1:17 p.m. — Would love to believe the Bears are in on Searcy. Big FA safety target that would instantly improve the defense.

1:03 p.m. — In relation to last tweet, Josina Anderson is reporting that the Bears are still in talks with Searcy. Chiefs & Titans in the mix.

Source: I'm told Da'Norris Searcy's camp is "still in active talks with the Chiefs and the Bears along with the Titans at this hour."

— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) March 10, 2015

12:55 p.m. — Safety target Da’norris Searcy looks like he’s headed to Tennessee. The Titans and Searcy have an agreement in place.

https://twitter.com/HardyNFL/status/575353121007796224

12:14 p.m. — Adam Schefter is reporting that the Chiefs will release wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. The Bears could be a candidate to sign Bowe.

Indications point to Chiefs releasing WR Dwayne Bowe this week.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 10, 2015

11:20 a.m. — Not free agent related but it looks like Kyle Long won’t miss Brandon Marshall much. Long appeared on the Kap & Haugh show today and said that going to New York benefits Marshall because he was to get into the TV biz. Long also said that things went on in the Bears locker room last year that wouldn’t happen in 31 other locker rooms.

11:13 a.m. — D.J. Williams has been informed the Bears will not sign him to a contract. Williams is familiar with the 3-4 under Fox, but with the team looking to get younger Williams does not fit.

10:42 a.m. — Adam Hoge confirms the Bears are still in the mix for Knighton.

#Bears still in the mix for DT Terrance Knighton, according to a source.

— Adam Hoge (@AdamHoge) March 10, 2015

9:58 a.m. — Rand Getlin is reporting that DT Terrance Knighton isn’t close on a deal yet. Bears still in play.

9:45 a.m. — If the Bears are targeting safety Da’Norris Searcy, they will have some competition as the Giants are in play for the prized free agent.

Da'Norris Searcy is all-but-gone from Buffalo. A "friend" tells me the Bears are among those very interested.

— Patrick Moran (@PatMoranTweets) March 9, 2015

8:00 a.m. — ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports there is no truth to the rumor of the Bears shopping Jay Cutler and that the team expects him to be the QB next season. The Sun Times Adam Jahns also confirmed those reports.
