The Chicago Bears have officially reported to Bourbonnais for the start of training camp as players reported on Wednesday. The first official practice begins on Thursday as we inch closer to the start of the NFL season.

With 46 days left in the season we are going to take a look back at 1946 which ended in an NFL Championship for the Bears. It was also the end of an era as the Bears would win their last championship of the decade.

1946 NFL Championship

The Bears came into the game vs the New York Giants searching for their fourth NFL Championship in the decade. The team was coached by the legendary George Halas and led by quarterback Sid Luckman who would end up scoring two touchdowns in the game.

Prior to the game there were reports that two Giants players, Frank Filchock and Merle Hapes, would throw the game on purpose after being bribed. The two admitted to being bribed but turned it down.

The Bears got the scoring done early jumping out to a 14-7 led in the first quarter with Luckman throwing a touchdown pass and Dante Magnani returning an interception for a touchdown. After being held scoreless in the next two quarters, the Bears found themselves tied at the end of the third. But it was a 10 point fourth quarter that finished off the Giants.

Luckman rushed for a 19-yard touchdown in the fourth and the Bears added a field goal to eventually win the game 24-14. It would be the last time the Bears would win a NFL Championship in 17 years.
