The Chicago Bears couldn’t find a way to close out Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, dropping them to 2-5 on the season. It was the Bears second-straight game in which they blew a lead late in the fourth quarter, both coming against divisional opponents.
With the loss the Bears remained in third place in the NFC North and way out of the playoff race in the NFC. But where are they in the power rankings? Here’s our complied power rankings from across the web:
ESPN
Despite the loss, the Bears actually didn’t fall in ESPN’s power rankings. Instead they stayed put at No. 25:
Matt Forte has accounted for 33.4 percent of the Bears’ yards from scrimmage, highest in the NFL. No other Bear has accounted for more than 14 percent of the team’s yards.
CBS Sports
A week after climbing the rankings, CBS NFL reporter Pete Prisco has the Bears dropping just one spot to No. 16. Prisco still thinks the Bears are competitive and praised quarterback Jay Cutler:
They’re competing, but that’s not enough. Jay Cutler is still playing sound football.
NFL
The league’s official site didn’t punish the Bears for losing this week. Instead they kept them at No. 25:
In a 20-20 ballgame, with 1:17 to play, the Bears had a wonderful opportunity to extend a drive and get Robbie Gould into field-goal position. On third-and-5, Jay Cutler, rolling to his right, hit Langford in the hands for what should’ve been an easy first down. Drop. Minnesota, appreciative of the gift — and the clock preservation that comes from an incomplete pass — took possession and ultimately the game. Another missed opportunity, another loss for the Bears.
FOX Sports
In a shocking move, the Bears actually moved up four spots in FOX Sports’ power rankings. With the lose loss, Chicago moved up to No. 25:
Just when the Bears get a top offensive player (Alshon Jeffery) healthy, another (Matt Forte) goes down with injury. The Bears have a lot of fight but not much talent across the roster.
USA Today
We’ve added USA Today’s power rankings due to SportingNews’ slideshow rankings taking forever. With their loss, the Bears rise two spots in the publication’s power rankings:
Just when it seemed they might parlay RB Matt Forte into a few draft picks, he injures his knee. It’s been that kind of year.
