Nike’s celebration of Black History Month is wrapping up, but it didn’t end without one final celebration.

The sports apparel giant held a celebration for two women’s basketball coaches last night to celebrate Black History Month and Nike’s relationship with the celebration. Both Dorothy Gaters (Marshall HS) and Vivian Stringer (Rutgers) were honored at the event which featured speeches by both coaches.

Gaters recently won her 1,000th game in November of 2014 and at the time was #8 all-time in the nation among girls basketball coaches. The coach has won eight state titles and has really transformed the Marshall program since she took over in 1976. Gaters spoke on how important the honor was for her and how she aims to teach girls not only on the court, but to be better people off the court.

Nike also brought in legendary Rutgers coach Vivian Stringer who was a big part of this year’s BHM collection with Nike. Stringer was a part of special edition products that honored six athletes and coaches “who have positively impacted sport with their courage and determination” according to Nike.

Here’s part of a press release from Nike on the event:

During Black History Month, NIKE, Inc. proudly honors the accomplishments of black heritage worldwide, in sport and beyond. What began a decade ago with a special BHM-themed Nike Air Force 1 has evolved into a company-wide, global effort recognizing civic leadership and multicultural progress.

Since 2005, NIKE, Inc. has recognized Black History Month with distinct designs of products, including shoes, apparel and accessories, beginning with the Air Force 1. The BHM special edition paid homage to the Pan-African flag and its colors, red, black and green.

This year, NIKE, Inc.’s 2015 BHM Collection includes 28 items in a distinct black-and-white palette with a mix of six custom Sport Kente geometric prints inspired by each sport hero. The collection ranges from performance to lifestyle products while honoring six athletes and coaches who have positively impacted sport with their courage and determination: Theotis Beasley, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Jerry Rice, Brianna Rollins, C. Vivian Stringer and John Thompson.

Nike presented Stringer with a special edition of the Nike Air Force I shoe dedicated to her accomplishments in women’s basketball. Also on hand were eight models of the Nike BHM collection including the Nike KD VII, LeBron XII, Kobe X and Kyrie Irving I.
