It’s been a busy week for Nike in Chicago as they celebrated basketball and its importance to the city for four days. Part of that celebration was the opening of the new Jordan Brand experience at Nike Chicago.

Former Simeon star and current Milwaukee Bucks player Jabari Parker joined Jordan Brand’s Larry Miller and ESPN’s Michael Wilbon to open up the experience on Saturday. Previously, Jordan Brand had a small section inside of the Nike store on Michigan Avenue, now they have almost a whole floor with ton’s of Jordan merchandise for sale.

“We view Chicago as the home of the Jordan Brand,” said Miller who is the president of Jordan Brand. “This is where Michael played and did what he did on the court.”

The new experience will offer Chicago a large variety of merchandise that includes shoes, shirts, shorts, socks and much much more. The space has a ‘Jumpman’ logo made of gold hanging from the ceiling as well as a shrine of every Air Jordan shoe through the newest set to release, the Air Jordan XX9. There’s even a space for the Air Jordan XXX which will release in 2015.

The Chicago native Parker also spoke on his relationship with the city and how it molded him into the player he is today. Although Parker will play in Milwaukee, he will have special place for Chicago as he grew up in the city and won four IHSA State Championships in his high school career.

The space officially opened up to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday morning with plenty of merchandise and shoes available for purchase. Sneaker fans were camping out since Thursday to purchase the latest Air Jordan III ‘Sport Blue’ colorway which was available for purchase.

It makes sense for Jordan Brand to have a impact in Chicago with the basketball scene. And this is just the start according to Miller.

“Creating the space made a lot of sense for us,” said Miller. “You’re going to see us do a lot more in the city of Chicago. We have a lot of special things planned.”
