Chicago Bulls point guard Rajon Rondo might return sooner than we thought.

After being ruled out indefinitely, Rondo may try and play in Wednesday’s Game 5 in Boston according to a report. The Vertical’s Shams Charania is reporting that Rondo is preparing to attempt to play in Wednesday’s game 5 after suffering a fracture in his right thumb.

The tweet also notes that no decision has been made yet and it will likely come during Wednesday’s shoot around in Boston. Rondo was originally ruled out for the game on Monday, but Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg opened a window by saying he’s out “as of now.”

Rondo practiced with the team on Tuesday but was shooting with his left hand:

ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that Rondo held a private workout Tuesday night in Boston. All indications are that Rondo will try and play barring any setback on Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

After grabbing a 2-0 lead by winning both games in Boston, the Bulls lost both games at the United Center without R0ndo.

Getting production at the point guard position has been a struggle. Chicago has gone with Jerian Grant, Michael Carter-Williams and Isaiah Canaan in the two games. Canaan provided a boost in Game 4, helping Chicago grab a brief lead in the third quarter.

Canaan was slated to be the starter in Game 5 and still might be if Rondo does not play.
