The left field fence at the Juice Box is 315 feet away from home plate.  The wall in left field is about 5 feet high.  Ramon Castro made sure that he his home run went 316 feet in distance and 5 feet 2 inches in height.

The Sox came in to the game 20-27 and kind of needed a signature win to get them started. Tonight might have been that win.  The offense was good and the pitching was better, thanks to Freddy Garcia!

Freddy came into the game, in his first start since the Sox got thrashed 13-0.  Sweaty Freddy went 7 innings giving up 4 hits and only 2 runs.  Garcia is now 4-3 with a 5.26 era.  Santos came in for .2 innings of work in the 8th and as usual was excellent giving up 0 runs and 0 hits with a strike out. Thornton came in for the rest of the game and allowed 1 hit, 0 runs and striked out 3.

On the hitting side of things the Sox were down in the 3rd but somehow found a way to win which is a hard thing for the Sox to do.  Brignac gave the Rays a 1-0 lead in the 3rd. Rios would comeback to give the Sox a 2-1 lead. Ramon Castro came up in the 5th and made it 3-1 on the very shallow home run to left field. Evan Longoria tried to get the Rays back with an RBI double but the threat would end there as Freddy Garcia gained his composure and locked it down. Gordon Beckham was starting to break out of his slump as he hit an RBI single in the 9th for an insurance run.

This run might have been just what the Sox doctor ordered as they beat the best team in baseball, at their place.

The Sox will look to take a 2-1 series lead tomorrow afternoon at the Juice Box in Tampa.
