Series Preview: White Sox @ Mets

This is the first time the White Sox ever play an interleague game in New York (credit: @SoxNerd). Unfortunately, it will also be a short exchange, as the Sox are only playing the Mets in a two game, short series. Just because the Sox are only playing two games does not mean that they should take this series lightly. Currently, the Mets are one of the worst teams in the NL, sitting at a 12-16 record and are ahead of the lowly Marlins. Not to mention that the Mets are riding a 3-7 record in their last ten games. Thus, the White Sox should be primed to jump on the Mets for some free wins and a trip up the standings.

The White Sox most likely won’t have an easy time with the pitchers in this series because the Sox notoriously struggle with pitchers they’ve never faced, and one of the pitchers they’ve never faced is a stud. The first game out the Mets are throwing out their newly unearthed ace, Matt Harvey. Harvey has dominated this season, and has a great arsenal of pitches that he uses to record an astounding number of strikeouts. The Sox will counter with Hector Santiago, who has faired fairly well this year with a 1-1 record and 2.29 ERA. The other game the Mets will trot out Jeremy Hefner. Hefner has not had that great of a year with an 0-3 record and 4.34 ERA, however, as I said earlier, the Sox have never faced him before and probably will have trouble with him, unless he is just throwing beach balls over the plate, belt-high. Hopefully the Sox can get back on track this series.

Tuesday, May 7th 6:10

Hector Santiago 1-1, 2.29 ERA v. Matt Harvey 4-0, 1.56 ERA

Jake Peavy 3-1, 3.38 ERA v. Jeremy Hefner 0-3, 4.34 ERA
