Seton Hall guard Aaron Cosby transferring to Illinois

John Groce and company secured a huge transfer Friday night in Seton Hall guard Aaron Cosby.

The sophomore Cosby is a 6’3″ combo guard that will have two years of eligibility after sitting out next season due to transfer rules. He visited Illinois on Friday, and made up his mind before leaving Champaign. He was scheduled to visit Mizzou this weekend, but won’t be taking that visit after deciding on Illinois.

Last season Cosby averaged 12.6 PPG for Seton Hall in the Big East. More importantly for Illinois though, Cosby shot 40% from 3 (66-165). He scored a season high 25 against Uconn, along with five other 20-point games.

Cosby joins a highly touted incoming recruiting class headlined by guards Malcolm Hill and Kendrick Nunn. Groce will have plenty of guards to choose from in two years once Cosby is eligible. They’ll have the junior Cosby, seniors Tracy Abrams and Rayvonte Rice, and sophomores Nunn, Hill, and Jaylon Tate, along with whoever they get in the 2014 recruiting class.

Illinois is still hoping to add a 5th year transfer or two for next season still. Due to the transfers of Mike Shaw, Devin Langford and Ibby Djimde, the Illini will have three spots open on next years team. They’re currently pursuing Tulane 5th year Josh Davis, who averaged 18 & 11 last year. Also Illinois State forward Jon Ekey remains a possibility.
