The Fire were the benefactors of a first half red card issued to Toronto FC forward Luke Moore, but were ultimately unable to capitalize, tying the ten-man Canadian side 1-1 at Toyota Park.
Thirteen minutes after Moore’s 29th minute red card, Toronto midfielder Jackson scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead before half-time.
The Fire held 61.7% of the possession in the match, but were only able to muster an equalizer, coming from rookie midfielder Harrison Shipp in the 56th minute. Shipp leads the team with six goals and four assists. The Notre Dame product’s six goals are the only six goals that have ever been scored by a Fire Homegrown Player.
The match attendance of 13,153 was below the Fire’s season average that had been at 15,603 for the season.
The draw pushed the Fire past Montreal and into ninth place in the Eastern Conference. With 15 points in 15 games, the Fire are still within striking distance of a playoff spot and are just four points behind the fifth place New York Red Bulls. To move into a playoff spot, the Fire would have to move past New York, Columbus, Philadelphia and Houston.
The Fire’s next match comes on the road against Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The game will start at 2 p.m. CDT and will be broadcast on ESPN
