Sox Split Series With Mets

Well isn’t that the 2013 White Sox for you. They take a series in which on paper they should win easily and blow it on the field. Too bad. In fact if it weren’t for Alexei Ramirez, the Sox should gotten swept by the team from New York (not the one with 27 championships).

Game One the Sox were set to face the reincarnation of Matt Harvey in Mets prospect Zach Wheeler. If you’ve been a fan awhile you know that the Sox tend to struggle against pitchers they have never faced before. This was not the case for Wheeler though as the Sox drew three walks and four earn runs off the right-hander. Meanwhile Chris Sale turned in another solid outing for the Pale Hose giving up three runs and walking two while striking out thirteen Mets. Despite this solid outing Sale was yet again screwed out of a win as Gordon Beckham tackled Conor Gillaspie who was camped under the ball, ready to make the catch. The ball dropped and David Wright, who was running on contact, scored easily, tying the game. As I said earlier, if it wasn’t for Alexei Ramirez, the Sox may have lost the game, but Alexei walked-off the Mets and Sox fans went home happy.

That is until 24 hours later. The Sox should have had an easy win as the winless Shawn Marcum with his 5.76 ERA took the rubber. They didn’t. Instead the Sox offense looked anemic, only mustering four hits against Marcum and Bobby Parnell combined. Sox starter John Danks was put in a quality start for the South Siders but still gave up seven hits, on the bright side he did not walk anyone and struck out seven.

All in all the Sox still are not good.
