Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane will officially make his return Wednesday night when the team begins the first round in Nashville against the Predators. Kane was cleared to play and confirmed his status for Wednesday night.

Kane has participated in practice with the Blackhawks for a few days now and was upgraded to a red sweater, taking on full contact. It was reported he could be cleared for game one on Sunday, but Kane made it official today. It comes at no better time for the Blackhawks who seem to need a spark going into the playoffs. The Hawks have struggled down the stretch and have certainly missed their star since he went down with an injury in February.

The winger’s presence alone will benefit the Blackhawks who will look to jump out to an early 1-0 series lead Wednesday night. When he went down in February with a broken collarbone it was originally slated as a 10-12 week injury, targeting the Western Conference finals as his likely return date. Wednesday will be around seven weeks, making Kane ahead of schedule.

As for that playoff mullet? Well Kane will return sporting the mullet.

The 26-year-old Kane has been phenomenal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in his career. He has 91 points in 93 career playoff games and won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2013 as the playoff’s MVP helping lead the Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup defeating the Boston Bruins.
