Welcome to the madness! I will update this post all day as Cubs reports come piling in. Stay tuned from now until 3:00 CST.

Possible Cubs on the move:

Nate Schierholtz-Suitor(s): Pirates, Rangers, Royals

Kevin Gregg: Suitor(s): Pirates, Tigers, Rockies

James Russell: Suitor(s):Pirates

Jeff Samardzija: Suitor(s): Pirates, Diamondbacks

David DeJesus: Suitor(s): Pirates, Rays

Cubs Updates:

UPDATE 1 11:24 (7/30): CubsDen reports that the Diamondbacks continue to call on Jeff Samardzija, though a trade continues to look unlikely. Any deal would start with Tyler Skaggs or Archie Bradley.

Update 2 6:58: According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, Jeff Samardzija will not be dealt.

Update 3 7:32: Jayson Stark tweets that the Cubs are more likely to deal Schierholtz than Russell or Gregg.

Update 4 8:29: The Cubs are expected to move DeJesus or Schierholtz. The Pirates are in on both, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.

Update 5 8:51: The Cubs-DBacks trade talks surrounding Samardzija appear to be over after Arizona wanted Ian Kennedy to be the centerpiece, says John Arguello of CubsDen

Update 6 9:03: CubsDen also says the Cubs have been receiving a ton of interest on both outfielders and there is a chance that both could be traded.

Update 7 9:28: Although they appeared to be in on him yesterday, Ian Kennedy now seems out of the picture for the Cubs, as Heyman says that the Angels and Padres are interested in him, while failing to mention the Cubs.

Update 8 9:56: Julie DiCaro says that it is now more likely that DeJesus is dealt rather than Schierholtz, which is a big shift from a couple days ago, when everyone thought DeJesus would stay and Schierholtz would go.

Update 9 9:58: John Perrotto adds more to the DeJesus to the Pirates fire, claiming he would be cheaper than Schierholtz.

Update 10 10:25: CubsDen is hearing the Rays are also interested in DeJesus.

Update 11 10:58: Conflicting reports surrounding the Pirates interest in Nate Schierholtz. Jayson Stark says they are likely standing pat, while Arguello says that they are making an even bigger push for Schierholtz.

Update 12 11:08: Bill Brink reports that no Pirates deal is imminent, which means a Schierholtz trade could come closer to 3:00.

Update 13 11:14: Phil Rogers speculates that Dioner Navarro could be an option for the Cardinals.

Update 14 11:22: The Rangers are ramping up their efforts for a bat, says Jon Morosi of FOXSports. Don’t be surprised if the Cubs and Rangers match up on another trade involving either Nate Schierholtz or David DeJesus.

Update 15 11:51: CubsDen says as many as four Cubs are in play, with the picture starting to clear up. If I had to guess I would say DeJesus, Schierholtz, Gregg and Russell are the four.

Update 16 11:51: Buster Olney is saying that the Cubs are talking Schierholtz, but don’t have a problem holding onto him.

Update 17 12:26: Olney also speculates that the Cubs could wait until August to trade Gregg.

Update 18 12:32: Hardball Talk speculates the Reds could have interest in Russell.

Update 19 12:37: James Russell has been discussed much more than Kevin Gregg as of late, according to Bruce Levine.

Update 20 12:51: The Padres and Diamondbacks appear to be closing in on a deal that would send Ian Kennedy to the Padres for Joe Thatcher and a prospect. This presumably takes Arizona out of the race for Russell and Gregg.

Update 21 1:31: A Dioner Navarro to Cardinals deal is possible but not close, says Jayson Stark.

Update 22 1:48: Levine adds that at least one other team is interested in Navarro.

Update 23 1:51: The Cubs are officially done listening to trade offers for Samardijza, says Arguello.

Update 24 2:00: Ken Rosenthal adds that the Cubs and Cardinals are officially in discussions involving Navarro.

Update 25 2:03: Nick Cafardo says Nate Schierholtz is probably staying put.

Update 26 2:10: A Navarro to STL deal is getting closer.

Update 27 2:50: It appears that the Cardinals pursuit of Navarro has slowed down, according to Ken Rosenthal. The teams were unable to agree on the price.

Update 28 2:57: The Pirates aren’t meeting the Cubs need in a Schierholtz or DeJesus trade, so a deal looks unlikely according to Bob Nightengale.

Update 29 3:04: In a very disappointing end to the deadline, Nightengale says that no Cubs deals have been made. Only three completed in total.

Moves around the league:

7/30- A’s acquire 3B Alberto Callaspo for former Futures Game MVP 2B Grant Green.

7/30-Red Sox acquire SP Jake Peavy in a 3 team deal. Tigers acquired SS Jose Iglesias from BOS, while the White Sox get RF Avisail Garcia from Tigers and prospects Frank Montas, J.B. Wendelken and Cleuluis Rondon from the Red Sox. Boston also gets RP Brayan Villarreal from the Tigers.

7/31-Padres acquire Ian Kennedy for RP Joe Thatcher, Minor League P Matt Stites and a compensation draft pick (B).

7/31-Royals acquire Justin Maxwell from the Astros for minor leaguer Kyle Smith.

7/31-Orioles acquire Bud Norris for L.J. Hoes, a draft pick compensation and Josh Hader.
