The Chicago Cubs were in danger of dropping three of the four games to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field on Thursday, trailing 6-4 going into the ninth inning.
Chicago fell behind 6-1 after a grand slam by Nick Ahmed but they didn’t stop clawing back. The Cubs got two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to cut into that deficit.
Then in the ninth inning, some magic happened. Infielder David Bote, who was just recalled from Triple-A, stepped up to the plate with a man on and one out facing Diamondbacks reliever Brad Boxberger. Bote then launched a big two-run home run into the left field bleachers, tying the game at 6.
Two pitches later, first baseman Anthony Rizzo won it and sent the Wrigley Field crowd into a frenzy:

The Cubs improved to 60-42 on the season and have a three-game lead on the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. Milwaukee is in San Francisco on Thursday night to begin a big four-game series with the Giants.
