There are a lot of storylines surrounding this young Chicago Bulls team early on in the 2019-20 season. While a lot of the attention has been on head coach Jim Boylen, the young talent on this team has shown a bit as we are still in November.

Coby White put up a career night in the win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night but it’s the play of third-year man Wendell Carter Jr. that is quietly going un-noticed.

In that 120-102 win over the Knicks, Carter Jr. finished with 17 points and grabbed 12 boards. That was his seventh double-double in 11 games for the Bulls this season.

Carter Jr. has been a vocal leader for the Bulls early on too. He drew a technical foul on former Bull Bobby Portis early in the game, which stemmed from some comments Carter Jr. made on Monday regarding Portis scoring 28 points in the Knicks win over the Bulls earlier this season. Here is what Carter said during that Monday media session:

“We’re not letting that happen,” Carter said on Monday. “Bobby’s going to come on and want to put on a show. I’m not going to have it. I hope he watches this. I ain’t having that.”

Following the game, Carter was asked about his matchup with Portis:

While the two are friends, Carter certainly used this to his advantage and it paid off for the Bulls in the form of a win.

With Carter Jr. playing at a high level early on for the Bulls and Coby White continuing to get better, Chicago’s core is starting to come together some.

Now they just need all of the pieces to get in place.
