Vinnie Hinostroza is off to a scorching hot start for the Rockford Icehogs and clearly shows he is ready to be in the NHL.
Hinostroza played 49 games with the Chicago Blackhawks last year, only managing 14 points while being stuck on the 4th line and not seeing a lot of ice time.
The 22 year-old forward from Bartlett, Illinois has 17 points in 17 games and is able to pull off plays like this:
What’s keeping Hinostroza in the AHL?
Simply put there is no room for him on the Blackhawks and Quineville seems to be happy with the players he currently has. The Blackhawks are also terrified of putting players on waivers even though teams rarely claim depth players.
It would be really exciting to see what Hinostroza and DeBrincat can do on the same line together while Sharp hangs out in the press box.
The Blackhawks have a few options if they decide to bring Hinostroza up:
- He is first to be called up if anyone goes down with an injury.
- Kero or Oesterle are sent down to Rockford through waivers.
- DeBrincat is sent down to Rockford, exempt from waivers (this is not a good idea).
Hinostroza would probably slot in on the 3rd line either at center or wing while Sharp, Hayden or Bouma take a seat. Hopefully Hinostroza will be back with the Blackhawks sooner rather than later.
