White Sox swept by Bryce Harper, Nationals

Just as easily as a dust bunny is swept into the garbage, the White Sox were swept out of the District of Columbia on Thursday night. The White Sox offense was surprisingly lively during the series that featured Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmerman, & Dan Haren, Sox fans can be happy about that. However, with that decent display of offense Sox fans also saw their starting pitching fail them. Jake Peavy gave up six runs in his start, Gavin Floyd gave up five in his start, and Dylan Axelrod gave up six runs in his start. The Sox bullpen was lights out during the series, which is a bright spot.

The good thing that I saw from this series was the Sox relied a lot less on the home run as they didn’t hit a long ball in the Wednesday and the Thursday game. This shows me that the Sox are able to score runs without the long ball, however they don’t have a win to show for it, which means nothing. Despite the Sox not having a win to show for it, I have still say it is a step in the right direction.

Another observation from the series is that Denard Span still does not like the Sox. In his first game back against his former division rivals he had five hits, two walks, a stolen base, and four runs scored in twelve at bats. Span could make his career off the White Sox and he must be sad that he can’t face us much longer.

The White Sox also did something that you don’t see from their traditional playing style and that was that they had a stolen base in every single game; one from Rios, one from DeWayne Wise, and one also from Alejandro De Aza. Stolen bases will definitely help in the manufacturing runs department and I’m glad that manager Robin Ventura is implementing stolen bases into his master plan.

Next up the Sox will travel to Ohio to face the division rival Cleveland Indians and look for redemption for this devastating sweep from the powerhouse Nationals.
