The Chicago Cubs are going to make some big moves this offseason in terms of their roster but on Thursday night, news broke of a shocking move that didn’t involve the players on the field but a guy close to them.

According to a report from The Athletic’s Sahadev Sharma, Cubs TV play-by-play man Len Kasper is leaving the franchise and is expected to take the vacant White Sox play-by-play job on the radio. The move is expected to be announced on Friday morning on ESPN 1000, as the station is the new home for the South Siders.

Here is what Sharma wrote:

As the Cubs start a busy offseason, one of the biggest departures is coming from the broadcast booth. After 16 years as the team’s TV play-by-play man, Len Kasper has decided to leave for the vacant White Sox radio job, according to multiple sources.

The move will be officially announced Friday morning on ESPN 1000, the new radio home of the White Sox. Kasper will team with color analyst Darrin Jackson, who returns for his 13th season in the radio booth and his 22nd overall with the team.

The full article and scoop from Sharma can be found here on The Athletic.

Kasper joined the Cubs’ booth in 2005 and has been a mainstay for fans ever since. He’s become one of the best play-by-play guys in the business and has even done some national stuff along the way.

I’ll be honest, this one sucks as it will be hard not hearing Kasper’s voice when the Cubs open the 2021 season in the Spring. It was expected that the Cubs would be making some big moves and already have with Theo Epstein resigning and the team moving on from Kyle Schwarber but this one is just the latest move in what will be a rough offseason.
