Cubs Minor League Update 8/24

I won't be putting up the AZL Cubs results anymore, with Reggie Golden out I don't see the point. Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Lost to Nashville 8-6 Austin Bibens-Dirkx got the start and was destroyed. He pitched five innings, allowed eight runs (all earned), on 10 hits and a walk. This will be a start best forgotten. Marquez Smith (3B) went 2-5 with a run scored. Robinson Chirinos (C) went 1-3 with a double, walk, and ...

Cubs Minor League Update 8/17

Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Beat Fresno 5-3 Jeff Samardzija got the start, and pitched very well yet again. Six innings, one unearned run, four hits, one walk, five strikeouts. That puts his AAA ERA at 3.05, and he continues to encourage those who still believe in him that he might have figured something out. We will find out soon enough. Brian Schlitter pitched a scoreless inning of relief, allowing just one walk. Ro ...

Cubs Minor League Update 8/16

Sorry for the lack of updates this weekend, I was on "vacation". Big day yesterday in the minors though, with a couple of Korean's having big games. Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Lost to Fresno 8-5 Mitch Atkins got lit up in his start, lasting just four and one third innings. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits. He had no walks though. Jeff Gray struck out two in his inning of scoreless relief. Micah Hoffpauir ...

Cubs Minor League Update 8/12

Mixed bag last night, hitting prospects took the night off though. Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Lost to Portland 5-4 Jay Jackson had a solid start, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs. He had four strikeouts and no walks, but did allow six hits. Jackson appears to be recovered from his ill-advised trip to the bullpen, which led to some bad starts as he worked his arm back into shape. Jackson got a base hi ...

Cubs Minors Wrap 8/11

A few big names started today, including my old buddy Jeff Samardzija, and future ace Chris Archer. Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Lost to Portland 13-3 When I saw the score, I figured Jeff Samardzija got lit up like he was back in the big league bullpen. I have to give Samardzija credit though, he was not at fault for this lopsided loss. He pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and three walks. ...

Cubs Minor League Update 8/9

Daytona had the day off, the rest of the system went 3-1 yesterday. Much better than the big club. Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Beat Portland 9-6 J.R. Mathes put together a quality start, going six innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits. He had three strikeouts and a walk, both earned runs came off homers. Jeff Gray (I could have sworn he was still on the big league team, but clearly I'm wrong) allowed t ...

Cubs Minor League Update 8/8

I'm going to do my best to sum up the Cubs minor league games each night. What I need though is the names of players we want to keep track of. Clearly, nobody cares about the random organizational left fielder wasting away in AA, but I cannot claim to know all the prospects right now either. If there is a name you think should be in the report each day, go ahead and tell me. Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Beat Tacoma 7-3 ...
