Sorry for the lack of updates this weekend, I was on “vacation”. Big day yesterday in the minors though, with a couple of Korean’s having big games.

Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Lost to Fresno 8-5

Mitch Atkins got lit up in his start, lasting just four and one third innings. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits. He had no walks though.

Jeff Gray struck out two in his inning of scoreless relief.

Micah Hoffpauir celebrated his return to AAA with his 22nd home run of the season, and he has a 21 game hitting streak going right now.

Tennessee Smokies (AA)- Beat Chattanooga 9-6

Chris Archer finally became human, having his first bad start all season. He went just three and two-thirds innings, allowed four runs on five hits and seven walks. He still managed five strikeouts, but his command, which is his biggest weakness, was terrible.

Kyle Smit, who came over in the Ted Lilly trade, pitched two innings of relief. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk against three strikeouts.

Brett Jackson played center field, went 1-4, and scored a run.

Tony Thomas (2B) went 0-3

Daytona Cubs (High-A)- Lost to Tampa 5-2, 1-0

Daytona had a double header, which means each game only went 7 innings.

Dae-Eun Rhee started the first game, and did not pitch well. In four innings he allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks. David Patton shut the door after that though, going two innings and allowing just a hit.

In game two, Chris Siegfried started, and he did a little better than Rhee. In three and two-thirds innings he allowed one run on two hits and three walks. He did have four strikeouts as well.

Junior Lake (SS) led off both games, and went a combined 1-6 with a RBI. He also committed his 38th error of the season in game 1.

D.J. LeMahieu played second base in game one, and was the DH in game two. He went 1-6.

Peoria Chiefs (Low-A)- Beat Kane County 8-4

Frank Batista started for the Chiefs, he pitched well over five and two-thirds innings. He allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks. He also had five strikeouts, and has a season ERA of 4.13.

Jae-Hoon Ha (RF) had a monster game. He hit for the cycle, going 4-5. He had 4 RBI in the game. It was the first Cubs’ minor league cycle since 1999.

Hak-Ju Lee (SS) went 2-5.

Boise Hawks (Rookie)- Beat Everett 8-4

Sucks that Archer had a bad outing.
