A Look Ahead to Some Key Games on the Cubs Schedule

The Cubs schedule has been released for some time, and there are a lot of potentially good games on their schedule, whether they are in contention or not. With changes to this season’s schedule including inter-league play in every month, the Cubs schedule should be one of the most intriguing ones they have had in years.

Here are a few key series:

April 1-4 at Pirates: This is opening day for the Cubs, and while not at home, it is the first look we will get at this Cubs team.

April 8-10 vs. Brewers: The Cubs home opener, and the first time we will see the rival Brewers.

April 11-14 vs. Giants: Right in the middle of the Cubs first 10 game home stand, the defending champs Giants visit the Friendly Confines. This is arguably the Cubs first real test of the season.

April 16-18 vs. Rangers: While some fans may adjust quicker to the new inter-league schedule than others, there is no doubt it will be exciting to see the Cubs play an inter-league team in April.

May 7-8 vs. Cardinals: Even though it’s only a two game series, this is the Cubs first series against the arch rival Cardinals.

May 27-30 vs./at White Sox: The changes to inter-league play include the Crosstown rivalry being split up into two separate two game series. They happen to be back-to-back with the first two being at U.S. Cellular Field and the final two happening at Wrigley.

June 10-13 vs. Reds: A fun June series will be against the Reds, who will likely be in contention.

July 9-10 vs. Angels: In their second two game series of the season against the Angels, the Cubs will welcome an Angels team that features Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, and Josh Hamilton. It will be a popular series for the fans.

August 1-4 vs. Dodgers: The notoriously spending Dodgers will march into Wrigley Field, already probably in playoff contention, in the hopes of sweeping the Cubs. This series should also see a great fan turn out.

September 23-25 vs. Pirates: The final Cubs home series of the year. In the off chance that they are in playoff contention, this could be the series where they clinch a berth.

September 27-29 at Cardinals: The final series of the year comes against the Cardinals, in what could potentially be the last Cubs games for long time players such as Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Marmol.
