Anthony Rizzo responds to Miguel Montero’s comments on Jake Arrieta

The Chicago Cubs put together a less than impressive performance against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, losing 6-1.

The Cubs put together just 3 total hits, and scored their only run in the first inning.

Defensively they weren’t much better.

The Nationals stole 7 bases off pitcher Jake Arrieta and Miguel Montero, leading to a few runs. Following the game, Montero threw Arrieta under the bus with some shocking comments:

“That’s the reason they were running left and right today, because they [Arrieta] were slow to the plate,” Montero said after the Cubs’ 6-1 loss. “Simple as that. It’s a shame it’s my fault because I didn’t throw anyone out.

“It really sucked, because the stolen bases go on me. But when you really look at it, the pitcher doesn’t give me any time, so yeah, ‘Miggy can’t throw anyone out,’ but my pitchers don’t hold anyone on.”

But first baseman Anthony Rizzo isn’t too happy with the comments. While appearing on ESPN1000 Wednesday morning, Rizzo blasted Montero as you can see by the tweets below:

Rizzo on Miggy's comments:
"When you point fingers you're a selfish player. We have another catcher that throws everyone out."

— ESPN 1000 (@ESPN1000) June 28, 2017

Rizzo:
"This is all over TV last night. Now I gotta talk about it today. We win as 25 lose as 25. To call teammates out? What’s the point?"

— ESPN 1000 (@ESPN1000) June 28, 2017

Rizzo is not happy and for good reasons. With the Cubs struggles this season, the last thing the team needs is players calling eachother out.

Montero complained during the 2016 MLB Playoffs because he wasn’t getting enough playing time.

Is Montero’s time with the Cubs about over?

Been following Chicago sports for many years. I have ties to Rockford, Illinois however have since been displaced in North Carolina far from Illinois. I am still an avid fan despite the geographical complications in following my teams. I am known as the internet’s #1 Rex Grossman connoisseur

Let’s please remember that Miggy is frustrated in general. The origin is not Jake. And who was the clutch player that batted in the winning run in game 7 of the 2016 World Series?!
