The Chicago Bears coaching staff is seeing drastic changes. Many sources are reporting the Bears have fired all coaches on the offensive side. The following coaches were fired today: offensive coordinator Mike Tice, receivers coach Darryl Drake, and quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates. On the defensive side, sources say the Bears have fired defensive backs coach Jon Hoke and linebackers coach Bob Babich. The only coaches left from 2012 include defensive line coach Mike Phair and safeties coach Gill Byrd. Sources say that these coaches have been told to start looking for coaching jobs on different teams.
The Bears have hired Skip Peete to be the new running backs coach. Peete has coached Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys running backs since 1998. He has also coached collegiate receivers and running backs from 1989-1997.
Many reports now say the Arizona Cardinals have hired Bruce Arians as their head coach. Arians was previously the Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator. He was also the runner-up in the Bears coaching search. The Arians hiring fills the final vacant head coaching job in the NFL. This also leaves former Bears coach Lovie Smith without a job. Reports say that Smith was content on sitting next season if he did not land a head coaching job. The odds of him getting one soon are small as offensive-minded coaches are getting jobs. Of the eight coaches hired, seven were offensive-minded (former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley was hired by Jacksonville). It would be wise if he were to take a defensive coordinator job somewhere else.
