The Chicago Cubs‘ starting rotation was rocked this weekend in their series against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Colin Rea surrendered six earned runs through 5.0 innings pitched on an 108 pitch count in Chicago’s 6-4 loss to the Reds on Saturday.
On Sunday, Ben Brown gave up eight earned runs through 4.1 innings pitched on an 85 pitch count. Brown gave up four runs in the first inning before settling down. He gave up another four-run inning in the fifth.
A rough spring for Ben Brown

Brown entered Sunday’s contest with an ERA of 5.44 and 58 strikeouts. The 25-year-old right-hander has surrendered 11 earned runs in his last three outings (15 innings).
Cubs fans on social media are frustrated with Brown’s performance as a starter this season. He was expected to be the fifth man in the rotation, but injuries have caused Chicago to rely more on the young pitcher.
Chicago Cubs fans call for changes to the rotation

Some fans want Brown to go back to the bullpen when Shota Imanaga enters the rotation again when he recovers from his hamstring injury. Others would like to see Brown DFA’d.
“I’ve had about enough of Ben Brown in the rotation,” wrote a fan.
“I hate to say it, but I’m finally in the camp of Ben Brown to the bullpen,” suggested a fan. “Maybe even AAA. I guess Flexen to the rotation?”
“Brown experiment is OVER. He is hurting the team. Send him to the minors and do not bring him back up until he perfects a 3rd pitch,” posted another.
“Brown is not a starting pitcher he’s either a bullpen arm or nothing at this points I’ve seen enough. It’s not hard to hit a pitcher that only has 2 pitches,” argued a fan.
“Brown experiment must end and end as soon as possible. Send down to AAA until he can get his stuff figured out. He has no confidence and he isn’t going to get it in the big leagues getting t’d off on or walking the lineup,” posted another.
“I mean I hope I wake up to something the next couple days and it says that Ben Brown is DFA’d or he’s being sent to Iowa cause he doesn’t deserve to pitch anymore,” advocated a fan.
