Blackhawks Beat Detroit 2-1 In OT; Best Start In Franchise History

The Blackhawks knock off the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in overtime marking their best start in franchise history with a 6-0-0 record.

It didn’t take long for the scoreboard to crack open. Duncan Keith blasted his first goal of the season on the power play to give Chicago an early 1-0 just over two minutes into the opening period.

A scoreless second period, but an important one for the Blackhawks as they killed off four consecutive Detroit power plays (six counting the two in the first period) to hold onto their one-goal lead.

With the Red Wings surging into the third period, they finally found the back of the net when Johan Franzen snuck a shot underneath Corey Crawford’s pads tying the game at 1.

Chicago had several chances to respond towards the later part of the third period with a pair of back-to-back one-man advantages, but weren’t able to capitalize.

In the overtime period, Nick Leddy clinched the game-winner when he fired his first goal of the year past Jimmy Howard off a nice feed from Viktor Stalberg to give the Blackhawks a 2-1 victory.

Chicago recorded a total of 20 blocked shots and 16 hits.

Patrick Kane’s five-game point streak to start out the season was snapped tonight.

Crawford was phenomenal all game long stopping 29 of 30 (.967 save %) shots faced.

Power Play: 1-for-3
Penalty Kill: 6-for-6

WHAT’S NEXT?
The Blackhawks will take advantage of a three-day break before traveling to Minnesota on Wednesday night to begin a 6-game road stint; puck drop at 7:00pm CT!
