The Chicago Blackhawks began their pursuit of a third Stanley Cup Championship in six years with a 3-2 win in Dallas. First star Corey Crawford stood tall and stopped 32 of 34 shots on the night, including all 3 shootout attempts.
Duncan Keith scored in the first period with 19 seconds remaining, but Dallas responded quickly with two goals in the second. The Blackhawks were outshot 24-11 in the first two periods.
The Blackhawks responded with a Patrick Sharp goal on a power play with 9:50 remaining in the third period.
Both team’s powerplays struggled, with the Blackhawks going 1-5 and the Stars going 1-6 on their opportunities.
After a tenuous overtime, the Blackhawks called upon Patrick Kane, and he responded with the only shootout goal on the night, to give the Blackhawks a victory in Dallas.
