Blackhawks Shut Out By Coyotes 3-0

The Phoenix Coyotes knock off the Chicago Blackhawks by a final score of 2-0, extending their losing streak to 8 games (most since the 2006-2007 season).

Jeremy Roenick, who played for the Coyotes for 6 seasons (1996-2001, 2006), was honored before the game which delayed the scheduled timing of puck-drop.

Andrew Shaw and Kyle Chipchura dropped the gloves just 1:34 into the opening period, where Shaw noticeably got the best of Chipchura. But it was Phoenix that got on the board first.

Viktor Stalberg failed to clear the puck out of their own zone leading to a Radim Vrbata goal that banked off of the skate of a crouched Sami Lepisto and in behind Ray Emery.

Several minutes later, the Coyotes added another goal off of a nice tic-tac-toe play from Lauri Kopikoski to Gilbert Brule finished by Boyd Gordon who found himself right in the doorstep with a wide open goal.

The Blackhawks controlled most of the second period having plenty of scoring opportunities including a pair of power plays, but couldn’t capitalize once again. Instead, Kyle Chipchura blew by Dylan Olsen that ensued a 2-on-1 break leading to a Chipchura goal and a 3-0 Phoenix lead. And that would end up being the final score.

Ray Emery had an overall decent game at best stopping 24 of 27 shots faced, unfortunately the offense couldn’t provide him with some offensive production and they ran into a really hot goaltender in Mike Smith. The Blackhawks outshot the Coyotes 38 to 27.

Chicago is now 1-for-21 (5%) on the power play during their 8-game losing streak, and 17-for-24 (70.8%) on the penalty kill.
