The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Tuesday that they have reached a two year contract extension with forward Andrew Shaw. Shaw was drafted by the Blackhawks in the fifth round in 2011.
While the Hawks made a number of extensions this past off-season, Shaw was one of the big names set to become a free agent at the end of the 2013-2014 season. According the sources, Shaw will make $2 million a season in a contract that runs through the 2015-16 season.
“It’s always in the back of your head,” Shaw told reporters this morning. “It’s nice to clear the air and now I can just focus on improving my game.”
Shaw,22, has been a consistent player on the Blackhawks third line for quite some time now. In 18 games this season, he has four goals and seven assist. But a big part of Shaw’s game is his physicality as he has 51 hits on the year. He had five goals and four assists while helping the Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup last season. He has 25 goals and 24 assists in 103 career regular-season games.
