Blackhawks Win 3rd Straight, Beat Detroit 2-1

The Chicago Blackhawks defeat the Detroit Red Wings by a final score of 2-1 winning their third consecutive game.

Kyle Quincey was guilty of an interference penalty just over 2 minutes into the game and Patrick Sharp capitalized on the power play that was tipped in off of a Detroit defender to give the Blackhawks an early 1-0 lead.

The Red Wings quickly answered back. Niklas Kronwall rifled a blast from the blue line that snuck top shelf past a screened Ray Emery to tie the game at 1.

Joey MacDonald replaced goaltender Jimmy Howard to start out the second period, and official word out of Detroit says it is a lower-body injury (not related to his right index finger that he broke earlier on in the season) and is listed as day-to-day.

Chicago killed off two crucial penalties in the second, but failed to convert on their only power play in the period that kept the game tied.

The two rookies, Andrew Shaw and Brendan Smith, then dropped the gloves after they’ve been chirping all game, and Smith got the best of him.

But with time winding down in the second period, the Blackhawks forced a late turnover and Patrick Kane finished it finding himself right on the doorstep to bury it home in an open net putting Chicago up 2-1. Kane’s 16th goal of the season turned out to be the game-winner, his third one of the year.

Chicago killed off all 4 penalties and their power play has now registered a goal in 3 of their last 4 games.

Ray Emery continues to roll picking up his third straight victory. In his last 3 games, he has only allowed 3 goals (1.00 GAA) and has posted a .959 save percentage.

Brent Seabrook, Johnny Oduya, and Jamal Mayers were credited with 3 shot blocks each, leading all skaters. Seabrook, along with Bryan Bickell, also led the team in hits with 4.

Patrick Sharp earned his 14th multi-point game of the regular-season adding a goal and an assist this afternoon, including a team-high 7 shots on goal.
