Bulls Edge 76ers in a Close One

The MVP has done it again.

In the last four match-ups between Chicago and Philly, the 76ers have taken the cake. Not this time though. Derrick Rose had enough of you and your antics, Sixers.

In a very close, competitive game, the Bulls were able to overcome the 76ers persistence, beating them 96-91. When the game comes down to a shot or two, you’re going to want your overall best player and scorer to take the shot. (I know Miami, that’s what you want, but for some reason LeBron is afraid to pull the trigger in situations like that. Maybe one day!)

The Bulls decided to put the ball in Derrick Rose’s hand, and he made his shot, putting the Bulls up by four with 20 seconds left.

The 76ers chose Andre Iguodala. He is their all-star after all, and it seemed like the right choice, but Iguodala shot twice and put up an air ball and hit backboard, and failed to sink a bucket. He also got a foul when the 76ers were in-bounding, resulting in the Bulls getting the ball back.

Now, obviously, Derrick Rose didn’t single-handedly win this game. Although he did score a season high 35 and get 8 assists, the rest of the team still pitched in. Joakim Noah grabbed 18 rebounds and scored 11, Boozer scored 13 and got himself 7 rebounds, and Luol Deng hit a pair of consecutive 3’s early in the 4th quarter to help put a little pressure on the 76ers.

CJ Watson sprained his ankle at the end of the second quarter, and didn’t look like he was going to play in the game anymore, but he came back in the 4th quarter and played 2 guard with Derrick Rose. He wound up finishing with 9. The only Bulls to not score was Kyle Korver, who went 0 for 4 in the 5 minutes he was in the game.

When the game started, it looked like it was going to be a point guard battle. Derrick Rose started hot, but so did Philly’s Jrue Holiday. But unfortunately for the 76ers, their guard couldn’t keep up. He eventually wound up with 16 points in the game. Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand both scored 14 points, and Brand managed to collect 13 boards.

Off the bench, both Thaddeus Young and Nikola Vucevic both provided a boost off the bench for Philadelphia. Young had 17 points and 9 rebounds, and Vucevic scored 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Also, is it just me, or does Nikola Vucevic look like Ralph Macchio from The Karate Kid?

The guy who shouldn’t have been shooting the ball for the 76ers was Jodie Meeks, as he only went 1 for 10 from the field. Yikes.

The Bulls have another tough one tonight against the Indiana Pacers. You may or may not remember earlier in the season, when the Pacers managed to upset the Bulls, Indiana celebrated the game like they just got done winning a championship. We’ll see tonight if the Bulls remembered that, and if they perhaps hold grudges.

The Pacers are currently on a six game winning streak, and for the first time in eight years, are flirting with seven games. Reggie Miller would be so proud.
