If there had ever been a game that the Hawks couldn’t have lost this was already it. Coming into the series hot after 2 straight wins against the Preds the Hawks were on the prowl looking to take a 1-0 series lead against the Canucks at home. However, the flying offense of the Canucks was to much for Antii Niemi and the Hawks.
The Canucks took a 2-0 lead after 1 and never looked back. Goals by Christian Ehroff and Mason Raymond. Raymond’s goal was set up by a lazy pass made by Brian Bickell as he failed to clear it or get it to a teammate. A first shot was misses but the one timer by Raymond sent the Canucks into the locker room with a whole lot of momentum.
The Canucks came out firing right away in the 2nd period as Henrik Sedin put a goal in the back of the net just 32 seconds in. Kyle Wellwood made the game 4-0 on a PP goal. The play was upheld after going to video replay. The net was disloged but the refs said the goal crossed the crease first. Michael Grabner made it 5-0 with just over 3 minutes left in the period.
Cristobal Huet came into the game after Niemi was pulled after the second. The hawks are unsure who will start game 2 in Chicago. Huet did not allow a goal in his relief apperance.
Patrick Kane tried to carry the Hawks in the 3rd with a PP goal about half way through but that’s all the Hawks would get as they lost 5-1.
