Chicago Bears: 5 Offseason moves the team could regret

The Chicago Bears made a lot of offseason moves so far. There are five of them, however, that could backfire and blow up in their faces.

The Chicago Bears and their fans expected this offseason to be one of the most impactful ones in franchise history. General Manager Ryan Poles hit the road running and made several moves to ensure that happened. He swung for the fences and made big moves to reverse the losing of the past several decades.

Some of the moves Poles made were popular while others were met with doubt. Poles stated several times that he wanted Year 3 to be the one in which the team takes a big step forward in becoming a real contender.

Perhaps the pressure of having Year 3 be the big year was on Poles. He made a few moves that went against what he did in his previous two years in Chicago. In his first two years, he went after young players he could have control over for a few seasons. This offseason, however, he is acquiring and spending money on older players.

Poles has also gone away from the “building through the draft” philosophy he had. He traded half of his draft picks and now has just four picks in April’s NFL Draft. He has two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a fourth-round pick. The ninth pick could be one he could trade since we’ve seen him make numerous draft-day trades.

Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus indicated at the owners meeting this week that the Chicago Bears would likely use that ninth pick. That leaves the other two picks. However, those picks won’t bring in the valuable picks the ninth overall pick would.

Here are five moves made by the Chicago Bears this offseason that could backfire on them later:
