During the Chicago Bears’ horrible 10-game losing streak in 2024, two things were very clear. Matt Eberflus lost the locker room, and his coaching staff was beyond incompetent.

To prove how incompetent the former Bears coach was, it was confirmed that Eberflus and former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron did not even help quarterback Caleb Williams with going over film. The coaching staff did not give the young quarterback any direction when it came to watching and breaking down film.

The former Bears head coach made many head-scratching decisions in his three years as head coach. There are so many moments during his tenure when anyone can see how incompetent he and his staff were. Since being let go, multiple players have hinted at how bad the coaching staff was during the 2024 season.

Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent seemed to have taken a shot at Eberflus and his previous staff, when explaining the biggest difference between new head coach Ben Johnson’s new staff and the old regime.

In a recent interview with ESPN 1000’s David Kaplan on “The REKAP”, Bagent was asked what is the biggest difference between Eberflus’ and Johnson’s coaching staff.

The Bears quarterback told Kaplan that the biggest difference is “The way that they are teaching us what we are responsible for on every play.

“He puts as lot of focus on, not neccesarily the defense, but what is our job on the play and how perfect can we do that job each and every play.”

Bagent went on to explain that the new Bears head coach is very “detailed oriented”.

Regarding how Johnson’s offense is taking shape, Bagent told Kaplan that “everything connects and make sense”. Hearing this is very encouraging. It seems there is a massive difference between how Johnson and Eberflus run things. Hearing the praise Bagent gives to his new head coach also seems to be a shot at former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron for how he led the offense in 2024.

Another key aspect of Bagent’s comments was what he said regarding Coach Johnson’s expectations for the Bears roster.

“He is expecting and demanding, maybe not greatness, but for you to be striving for greatness.”

The Bears head coach clearly has high expectations and a standard set for his football team. It looks like the new Bears head coach will be holding players accountable, something that the previous head coach never did.

It seems that many players have a lot of confidence and excitement for the new coaching staff. Hopefully it can lead to a great season in Chicago, even with a tough schedule.
