Dominique Robinson, DE
It seems that the only consistent thing Dominique Robinson has done since the Chicago Bears drafted him in the fifth round is to be on the bubble. Somehow he always finds a way to make the roster.
Robinson was a project for the Chicago Bears. He was a converted wide receiver and was still learning the position. At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, though, he has the size. With his skills as a wide receiver he has the speed and quickness that you want.
Despite being a project, Robinson had an incredible debut. In Week 1 of his rookie season, he recorded 1.5 sacks and 7 tackles. That gave the Chicago Bears and the fans hope for another star defensive player.
Things have not been as good since. In his 33 career games since, he has half a sack and 42 tackles. After playing in all 17 games in his rookie season, he played in 11 in 2023 and just 6 in 2024. The reduction in playing time, especially considering how desperate the Bears are at edge, means he is once again on the bubble.
In addition to his struggles to find time on the field, Robinson faces more competition. The Bears signed Dayo Odeyingbo to a big free agent contract so he figures to be the starting edge. Additionally, Austin Booker is ready to have a breakout season after showing flashes during his rookie season.
Somehow Robinson finds a way to make the roster despite always being on the bubble. He has already found a way to impress the head coach already. During OTAs Johnson had glowing words for Robinson.
Even without the pads on, (Robinson’s) done a great job of consistently speed-rushing up the field or countering back to the inside,” Johnson said. “He’s done a really nice job there. And of course he’s got some special teams value that he takes a lot of pride in as well.
Robinson caught the eye of the coaches early. Now he has to work to keep those eyes on him so he can once again survive the roster purge and wear the Chicago Bears uniform.
