The next wave of Chicago Cubs prospects coming to the big leagues has officially begun.
Chicago officially promoted prospect Ian Happ to the Major League roster on Saturday, starting him in right field and batting him second. Happ was the Cubs first round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft and has been tearing it up in Triple-A.
In 116 plate appearances for the Iowa Cubs, Happ hit .298 with nine home runs and 25 RBI’s.

The call-up is a move for some short-term help as the Cubs are dealing with injuries to Kris Bryant (illness), Addison Russell (shoulder), Jon Jay (back), Ben Zobrist (back), and Jason Heyward (thumb).
Reliever Felix Pena was sent down to Triple-A Iowa as the corresponding move.

“Happ demonstrates balance and bat speed from both sides, though he has been more productive as a left-handed hitter in pro ball. With his deceptive strength, solid speed and baserunning instincts, he has 20-20 upside.”
Happ was ranked as the No. 23 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com.
