On Friday the Chicago Cubs called up their top prospect Kris Bryant to the big leagues. Now it’s the Chicago White Sox turn to make a move.

According to reports, the White Sox will call up top pitching prospect Carlos Rodon who will join the team on Monday. Rodon will be inserted into the White Sox bullpen Monday night when the team begins a three game series vs. the Cleveland Indians.

Exciting news about Carlos Rodon. Joining the bullpen tomorrow. Big move by the White Sox.

The 22-year-old pitcher looked impressive during Spring Training and pitched well enough to belong on the Opening Day roster posting a 3.06 ERA and a 21/5 K/BB ration. But Rodon didn’t have to wait to get a taste of the big leagues. The southpaw worked on his fastball and change-up during the spring and his time leading up to the majors and he’s here to stay.

Rodon is expected to join the White Sox rotation at some point in his career as the team looks to build around a solid rotation already featuring ace Chris Sale, Jeff Samardzija and Jose Quintana. Rodon would figure to be the number three starter in Chicago.

The young pitcher can learn from Sale as the team is taking the same approach with Rodon. Sale began his career in the bullpen before moving to the rotation and becoming one of the best pitchers in the game today.

In his stint with Charlotte in Triple-A, Rodon has allowed five runs (four earned), eight hits, four walks and 13 strikeouts in 10 innings. He was the third overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft by the White Sox.
